Jesus' Humility
Feb. 1, 2006

    Today's Topic is Jesus' Humility

Jn 13:2-5, 11 NLT  2 It was time for supper, and the Devil had already enticed Judas, son of
Simon Iscariot, to carry out his plan to betray Jesus. 3 Jesus knew that the Father had given
him authority over everything and that he had come from God and would return to God. 4 So he
got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water
into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples' feet and to wipe them with the towel he had
around him. 11 For Jesus knew who would betray him. That is what he meant when he said,
"Not all of you are clean."

Jesus knew that Judas would betray Him before He washed the disciples' feet.  That means that Jesus,
knowing that he had all power and authority, chose to wash the feet of His enemy rather than destroy
    him.

Jesus could have easily told the disciples what Judas was planning to do and the disciples would have
dealt with him (quite harshly).  Or Jesus could have called down angels or cursed Judas for even thinking
about betraying Him.  Jesus even could have sent Judas on an errand while he washed the other
disciples' feet.  But instead, He wanted to show that He loved them all the same.  Not just the ones that
would do right by Him, but Judas as well.  He was showing Judas that He had already forgiven him for
the sin that he was about to commit.

It took such humility for the King of Kings to kneel down before his betrayer and wash his feet.  He took
the job of a servant in order to relay the message to us that we have to humble ourselves and forgive one
    another, even our enemies.

Jn 1:14-15 NLT  14 And since I, the Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to
wash each other's feet. 15 I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to you.

Let us humble ourselves today, and pray.  Seek His face and turn from our wicked ways, because then
will our Lord hear us from Heaven!  He will forgive our sins and heal our land!

I hope you enjoyed reading the word of God in a new light.  Have a Happy Wednesday!

    God Bless,
